honey bees, and a new face at ihoc

like a tiny seed head, lifting off its’ reed in a strong gust and floating downfield, an Alaskan-bound, puerto rican born, as-of-yet-unmet friend arrived on our farm about two weeks back.  riding a monster of a Kawasaki motorcycle, stacked to the rafters with all of his worldly, and otherworldly, possessions, el prisionero dela luna has been a cosmic injection of ingenuity and man power at the backyard moon.

coming full of knowledge, and with a passion for working, he has pitched a tent in our fields and fully joined the tribe.  answering the call of the wild, el prisionero is in the middle of a cross country motorcycle ride up to Alaska for the late summer/early fall.  although this sounds treacherous, it is truly nothing in comparison to the amazing challenge he has already conquered by riding his motorcycle across the bottom of the ocean floor from puerto rico to the georgia coast.

on the small puerto rican island of vieques, home to the historically controversial american military base, bombing range, and testing zone, el prisionero learned how to work with bees from a beekeeper who managed thirty stacks of Africanized honey bees.  ours, in comparison, are mild mannered and sweet, but as you can see in the video, they too can show signs of aggression.

after a few too many stings for comfort, el prisionero decided that it would be better to walk away and try again at another time.  following the path of least resistance, we took our crude tools, breathed slowly, and calmly let the colony get back to work.  honey, will come another day.
